Group Therapy Thailand

At our centre in Chiang Mai, we offer a variety of treatment options for people who struggle with substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and process addictions.
Why Group Therapy is So Important in Addiction Treatment
Addiction has a way of isolating a person. This is because many people who struggle with addiction can find themselves at a point where their substance use or unhealthy behaviour takes priority over their relationships. Mental health disorders can also isolate a person as a person’s symptoms can make them wary of the people around them, or it can take away their motivation, which can make it hard for them to go out and spend time with their loved ones.
Even if they do manage to get out, their mental health troubles may make them unpleasant to be around. Regardless of how it starts, isolation and loneliness often come with addiction and mental health conditions. These feelings can worsen a person’s situation. So, people in recovery need to find a supportive community. Group therapy sessions can provide a person with a supportive community. Within the group, a person can find other people who have been through similar struggles.
Group Therapy in Thailand
Aside from the sense of belonging, group therapy can also give someone peer support. Support groups can also be places of learning while in rehab, as some of the other people who come to Thailand may be further along in their recovery. The groups in Thailand can also facilitate learning through psychoeducational groups, which are designed to help people become more educated about substance use as well as its consequences. They can also help prevent relapse as members of the group can help each other stay focused on their recovery goals. Group members can also help each other develop skills that can be essential for recovery.
There are also interpersonal process groups. These can help a person develop their interpersonal skills. This can be important because of the isolation that often comes with addiction and mental health disorders. This can lead to a person losing their social skills. Improving interpersonal skills can also help a person set boundaries, which can help set and keep boundaries, which can often be instrumental in preventing relapse.
The Benefits of Group Therapy in Thailand
There are numerous benefits to coming to Thailand for treatment instead of seeking treatment at home. Some of the benefits of treatment in Chiang Mai include:
Cost Efficiency
Coming to Thailand for rehab over seeking treatment at home means getting world-class care for a fraction of what it would cost in Australia. Additionally, the centre in Chiang Mai is a luxury facility, so guests will be comfortable while they are in treatment.
Staff in Recovery
Another benefit of coming to us for treatment is that some members of our staff are in recovery themselves. This means that they’ll have an intimate understanding of the struggles that come with addiction and recovery.
Takes Insurance
Therapeutic care can be quite costly. However, we take insurance. This can make it easier for a person to afford care, which can sometimes be inaccessible in Australia.
Accepting
Thailand was the first country in Southeast Asia to recognise same-sex marriage. In keeping with this acceptance, our centre is friendly towards the LGBT community. Everyone is welcome to come to us for treatment.
Full Time Psychiatrist
We also have a full-time psychiatrist on staff. This means that our guests will be able to get psychiatric help and support when they need it.
Various Activities
In addition to our treatment, we also offer a variety of activities. These include golfing, hiking, getting massages, sightseeing, and Thai boxing. These can help make the treatment process a little more enjoyable.
Kinds of Group Counseling in Chiang Mai
Group therapy offers various benefits. However, not all forms of group therapy are the same. Some of the different forms of group therapy include:
Psychoeducational Groups
These group sessions are focused on educating participants on specific topics regarding mental health or other challenges. They emphasise acquiring new skills as well as practical applications.
Psychotherapy Groups
This form of therapy is aimed at addressing psychological issues. Members work to improve their emotional regulation and identify unhealthy patterns. This can help with personal and interpersonal issues.
Skills Development Groups
These groups are focused on helping group members develop skills to improve their day-to-day lives and manage their symptoms. They can sometimes be focused on developing skills in mindfulness and emotional regulation. Group members can also practice their skills.
Cognitive Behavioural Groups
These groups are based on CBT. They are focused on identifying unhealthy thoughts and feelings that can contribute to unhealthy behaviours. Members are taught to think in healthier and more constructive ways, which can improve their behaviour. These groups can be essential in helping people develop healthy coping skills.
Support Groups/Self-Help Groups
These groups provide a supportive environment for people who have been through similar struggles to support each other. They can be places where people can share experiences and insights, and gain perspective on their mutual struggles.
Counselling Groups
These groups are often focused on helping participants with specific issues. They can often be solution-focused.
Relapse Prevention Groups
These groups are aimed at helping people who are actively in recovery from addiction or mental health disorders stay focused. They can be essential for helping a person meet their recovery goals. Given the prevalence of relapse in addiction recovery, these groups can be vitally important.
Interpersonal Process Groups
With this type of therapy, members reflect on their patterns of communication and relationship dynamics. Members explore their roles when in social situations and can sometimes get a sense of community within the group.
Other Forms of Therapy

Individual Therapy
In individual counselling, a patient will work with a therapist to understand the root causes of their unhealthy actions as well as develop healthy coping mechanisms for their triggers. It can also help a person address any trauma that they may have.

Family Therapy
Family therapy can help people repair their relationships and educate family members on addiction and recovery. This generally happens towards the end of a person's treatment at our centre. A patient's loved ones can fly out to Chiang Mai. If that's not logistically feasible, then online sessions are available.
Find Support in Addiction Recovery
Recovery is often a group effort. It is not just the efforts of an individual that can help them get better, but also the support from the people around them. At Orchid, we provide a caring and supportive environment to foster recovery. Contact us to learn more.
