Rehab Gold Coast
Sixty-six kilometres from Brisbane is the Gold Coast, a city in Australia known for its stunning beaches. It’s the second-largest city in Queensland and is the largest city that isn’t a capital city.
Tourism is a major industry in the city, as are healthcare, arts, culture, and construction. It leads Australia in startups, is a hub for a burgeoning video games industry, and attracts content creators. It’s also central to Australia’s film and television industry.
Despite everything that Gold Coast has to offer, many in the area will struggle with addiction. There are rehabs in Gold Coast to help these people build a life free from addiction.
But nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai is the Orchid, a world-class rehab centre that offers cost-effective treatment.
Mental Health and Addiction
Alcohol and drug use is often tied to mental health issues. For a lot of people who struggle with addiction, their substance use began because they have a mental disorder, and they haven’t been able to find an approach to meet their specific needs. Because of this, they turn to illicit substances to cope with their illness.
Addiction can also affect a person’s mental health. Drug or alcohol use can worsen existing disorders. In some cases, a person who doesn’t have an underlying disorder can develop one due to the effects of the substances that they take.
Most rehabs offer mental health and substance addiction treatment to help those with co-occurring issues.
Substance Misuse in Australia
Illicit drug use is a major concern throughout Australia. Between 2022 and 2023, more than 10 million over the age of 14 reported using an illicit drug at some point in their lifetimes. Cannabis, cocaine, and hallucinogens were among the most widely used substances in the country.

Holistic Therapy and Sustainable Recovery
Relapse prevention is a major part of a treatment programme. Treatment facilities are all too aware of the prevalence of relapse, with between 40 to 60 per cent of people in addiction recovery experiencing a relapse.
Holistic approaches can complement clinical and evidence-based approaches in treatment. Another important facet of holistic treatment is that many can be practised outside a rehab centre. Yoga, Thai boxing, and mindfulness are accessible once a person returns home.
These activities can be vital because they can help distract a person from their cravings for alcohol or drugs, which can persist long after a person leaves residential rehabilitation.
Getting Clean Safely
Detoxification is one of the most important parts of a rehabilitation programme. However, some people think it may be unnecessary to go to a facility to do this. Some people think they can initiate recovery by going cold turkey and staying clean with willpower alone.
This is not the proper way to detox, nor is it a safe way to get clean. Substance use disorders are complex issues that require more treatment than just willpower.
There’s also that drug or alcohol detox can often cause a person to suffer withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms are usually uncomfortable, but they can sometimes be life-threatening. This is especially true in cases of severe withdrawal.
As such, it’s generally best to start a recovery journey by detoxing in a treatment facility, as the medical team can supervise and intervene when necessary.
