Individual Therapy Thailand

Learn about individual counselling in Thailand, about how a therapist can help in recovery, and about coming to our centre in Chiang Mai for treatment.
Preparing for Counseling and Recovery
Therapy can be emotionally exhausting. Going to a session means being open and honest with a therapist, and many people can find this difficult. But before starting therapy, a person should have realistic expectations. Therapy will be an ongoing process. One or two therapy sessions will not be enough to solve a person’s problems. It will help a person to set specific goals. They need to have an understanding of their problems. Therapists will often consider a person’s cultural background when administering treatment.
Now, counselling services are only one part of treating addiction or mental health disorders. The other parts of treatment can also be emotionally nerve-wracking, so a person has to be prepared for that. Logistically, coming to Thailand to seek help will also require a level of planning. Arrangements for care for dependents will have to be made. A person should also pack enough clothes for the length of their stay in rehab.
Individual Therapy in Thailand
There are numerous ways that a counsellor can help in a person’s recovery journey. A therapist can create a safe space wherein a person can explore the root cause of their troubles. Therapists will help patients explore these root causes and address them. By resolving these underlying factors, a person can find that their behaviour may improve. Furthermore, these therapy sessions can also be a safe space wherein they can talk about their troubles, which can give them a measure of emotional release.
A therapist can help a person define their specific recovery goals. Therapeutic care can also help a person develop healthy coping skills. In addiction recovery, whether substance or process addiction, healthy coping skills can be essential for managing triggers. This can be vital for preventing a relapse. In addiction recovery, psychotherapy can also help a person address any co-occurring disorders that they might have. Another important part of recovery is self-esteem. Addiction or mental health struggles can warp a person’s self-image, and therapy can help them regain their self-esteem. Conversely, low self-esteem can lead to addiction and contribute to underlying mental health issues.
Why Come to Thailand for Treatment
There are numerous reasons to come to our treatment centre in Chiang Mai. Some of the reasons to come to us include:
Cost Efficiency
A benefit of coming to Thailand for treatment is that it is cost-effective. Luxury rehab in Australia can be prohibitively expensive. Coming to us in Chiang Mai means accessing the same level of care and luxury at a more accessible rate.
Staff in Recovery
Some members of our staff are themselves, in recovery from their issues. This will give them unique insights into the struggles that our patients are going through. They know what the patients are struggling with because they have struggled through those things themselves.
Tolerant
Thai culture is largely tolerant of the LGBT community, so much so that Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to recognise same-sex unions. In keeping with this, our centre welcomes queer people.
Various Activities
To encourage comprehensive wellness and to make treatment more enjoyable, we integrate various activities into our addiction and mental health services. These activities can include physical activities such as hiking, swimming, and Thai boxing or less strenuous activities such as sightseeing, cooking classes, or massages.
Privacy
Some people may find it hard to be out and open about struggles with addiction or mental health concerns. As such, they will want privacy and discretion when seeking rehab and therapy services. Coming to counselling in Thailand can help secure a person’s privacy due to the distance alone.
Different Treatment Lengths
Our treatment facility in Thailand offers different lengths of treatment. This is because different people will have different needs and different recovery goals. Our treatment can last 4, 8, or 12 weeks.
What Individual Therapy Can Help Treat
There are several troubles that individual counselling and therapy can help treat. Some of the concerns that a mental health professional can help address in a one-on-one session can help address include:

Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorders can be treated, in part, by individual counselling. As previously mentioned, these sessions can help people address the underlying causes of their substance use and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Process Addictions
Process addictions are addictions to certain behaviours or processes. These can include gambling, sex, porn consumption, and shopping. Individual counselling can help address process addictions in a similar way it does to substance addictions.

Mental Health Disorders
People generally do not have control over their mental health disorders. People can develop them in the same way people can develop many other chronic diseases. One-on-one counselling sessions can help address mental health disorders not just by helping people understand their root causes but also by helping people find ways to healthily control their triggers.
Modalities We Use in Treatment
In treatment, we use a variety of modalities to help our patients address a range of mental health concerns. Some of the modalities that we use in our treatment programmes include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps address unhealthy behaviours by helping patients identify and address the negative thought patterns or cognitive distortions that can contribute to unhealthy behaviours. CBT is widely used.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a form of therapy that is primarily concerned with helping patients develop their skills in four key modules: mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. DBT was originally developed to treat BPD but has since proven quite adaptable.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a form of therapy that is primarily used to help people process traumatic memories. It does this by replicating REM sleep using bilateral stimulation from a therapist to process traumatic memories and lessen their emotional impact.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)
MI is a form of therapy that uses active listening to help patients discover their intrinsic motivation to recover. This can be particularly important for people who are resistant or ambivalent to treatment. You Can Overcome Addiction and Mental

One-on-one counselling is often pivotal to a person’s recovery. For many people, it can be where they find the motivation that will be needed for other parts of recovery. It can be where they address issues that have been bothering them for years. Therapy can be a boon for people seeking treatment. At Orchid, we help people reclaim their lives.
